Newsletter June 2020: Celebrate Kindness

Let’s Celebrate Kindness

Usually we would be enjoying our annual Great Get Together on 21st June, gathering in the garden at St Ethelwold’s House to celebrate kindness, respect, and all that we have in common as we remember Jo Cox MP. This year we have to do things differently.

St Ethelwold's Garden, with flowers

There have been so many instances of both random and planned acts of kindness over the last weeks and months. Our community has valued the strength of established groups, and has been thankful for many new initiatives to help us come through this together. Many individual acts of love and kindness we will never hear about, but will be treasured and will continue to nourish.

Do spend a little time in St Eth’s beautiful garden this week (or in a peaceful place near you) and remember Jo Cox. Think of the many instances of kindness, respect and humanity you have witnessed or experienced and be both thankful and resolute!

We would have been joining with Make Music Abingdon musicians on 21st… and you can still enjoy them online – see below.

And a big wave of thanks to Sue for putting this display in the window at St Ethelwold’s House

Make Music Day:  Sunday 21st June 2020

Woohoo, Make Music Day is coming up tomorrow, and we have some really good stuff lined up for you – even if we do say so ourselves. Check the full programme below! Highlights include:

  • Music 10am-10pm – plus a Zoom coffee-time chorus and a Zoom folk session on the day.
  • In the build up to Sunday we have lockdown interviews with two Oxfordshire bands to be aired Thursday and Friday night at 8.30 pm as well as the premiere of 15 song swap covers – the result of our song swap challenge – on Saturday from 8 pm.
  • A video collage for Come Together will also be compiled, and we would looove to have your contribution. Any voice, instrument, rhythm is welcome.
  • If you are a Facebook person, follow Make Music Abingdon to see it all and get all the news. If you are not on Facebook, fret not, because it will also be broadcast to our YouTube channel Make Music Oxfordshire

We really hope you want to join us online for one or more of these events, and we hope you will play or sing along from your homes on Sunday as it is Make Music Day all over the world – let’s all feel and enjoy the music!

Happy solstice & happy music, everyone!
